Stephanie and George // Yew Dell Botanical Gardens // Louisville, KY

As you may have noticed, I haven't blogged any images in a long time. Sadly, it is the one thing that gets bumped from my to-do list when I'm pressed for time. My clients will always come before blogging and updating social media. That being said, I'm feeling very good about being caught up on edits and emails and I am so excited to share what I've been working on over the past 6 months!

This is Stephanie and George's wedding from May of 2014. It was one for the record books. It was an all day marathon of gorgeous details and excited energy. Thanks to an old southern wedding tradition, we had beautiful weather. It is believed that to ensure a rain-free wedding day, a full bourbon bottle must be buried, upside down, at the site of your wedding for exactly one month. That bottle should be dug up and consumed on the day of your wedding. Praise the bourbon gods once again! Stephanie and George also had a not-so-traditional wig party at the end of the night that can only be described in images. I cannot say enough kind words about these two and I hope you enjoy their wedding day images as much as I do.

Oh, hi Ojai // Travel // Ojai, CA

I'm headed to Ojai for business AND pleasure this week so I thought I'd reminisce a little about my last trip there. Ojai is the perfect weekend getaway. It has great food and wine, wonderful accommodations to fit all price ranges, and the nicest people you'll meet in Southern California. It has an outdoor book store and olive oil tasting rooms, a mountain for meditation and a "pink moment" at the end of most days. It is a place for artists and spiritual people, hippies and the rich and famous. I don't know if it's the weather, the eccentricities or the privacy that attracts all walks of life to Ojai, but I do know that all three make it a very special place. See below for a full list of my favorite spots to visit in Ojai. I'm sure I'll find a few more to add to my list this week.

Tyler and Madalynn // Mini Session // Santa Ynez, CA

Ahh, youth. This mini session brought me back. Way back. Remember being young and in love in the springtime? Newly tanned skin, short shorts, the smell of freshly cut grass in the air. Everything was so simple. Emotions were so intense. These two beautiful people, I'm happy to say, are nothing like I was at 18. They are so level-headed and sure-footed, it's hard to believe they are so young. Soon, they will be faced with a difficult goodbye. The kind of goodbye that puts you on different continents for a year or more with limited communication. They are handling it remarkably well. Our mini session together was intended to freeze this moment in time. To capture the affection, the silliness, the laughter and the details so that when they are missing one another, they can look at these photos and feel it all again.

They certainly melt my heart. Hope to see you when you get engaged, Madalynn and Tyler!

Darin and Niko // Anniversary Session // Santa Ynez, CA

When Darin and Niko came to me with their request for a styled anniversary photo shoot commemorating 10 years together, through thick and thin, I was so excited to help give them photographs and an experience to remember. I immediately could relate to their story of finding one another in high school, growing apart, then reconnecting as partners for life. I have a similar story with a certain someone :)

Niko, being a photographer herself, had a pretty clear vision of what she wanted. She wanted to capture the romance of a bygone era, which would prove to be quite easy given their extensive collection of love notes and poems written to each other over the years. They also had an affinity for antique cameras and typewriters that I was pretty excited to incorporate into the shoot. We worked with hair and makeup artist Tawni Jones of 19 Blue Salon to create a classic 1950s look and pulled clothes from local Santa Barbara stores and our own personal collections. Honea Vineyards in Santa Ynez was kind enough to let us romp around their property for a few hours and it was an absolute dream! From atop a hill on their property we watched the sun set on one side and the full moon rise on the other. All-in-all, despite running up and down the hill about a thousand times, it was a pretty magical shoot.

Adam and Katelyn // Wedding // Santa Barbara, CA

Adam and Katelyn are SO fun and adorable and I want to be best friends with them and I loved every single detail of their event.

They planned a beautiful wedding on East Beach, here in Santa Barbara, with a reception at the Cabrillo Pavillion Arts Center. A color palette of pale pink, grey and white looked stunning against the coastline backdrop. Florals and decorative elements by Shannon Neels made the day feel so personal and lavish.

At the reception, Katelyn and Adam's 15-person wedding party and Rembrandt, an energetic live band from LA kept the dance floor packed all night, playing everything from Michael Jackson to Beyonce to Journey. I'll let you guess which of those three I captured in the last few dance floor images of this post.

I actually cannot stop myself from dancing when good music is playing. My body involuntarily moves to a beat, so I was doing a lot of dance photographing at this wedding. It's the latest in photographic techniques :)

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
