Mat and Yannis // Wedding // Santa Barbara, CA

Sometimes you just have that spark with a client. Something between you clicks and you see eye to eye and feel like you've been friends for a long time, when really, you just met. That's what happened with Mat, Yannis and I. I can say this about a lot of my clients. They are for real, the coolest and I don't know how I got so lucky. How are there so many genuinely nice/funny/smart/interesting people in the world and how are they finding their way to me? I don't know, but there is something about Mat and Yannis that I just can't seem to shake. Maybe it's that when I gave them the option to meet over coffee or wine it was a hard "WINE". Or maybe it was our similar taste in music and style or maybe it was just that the conversation flowed so easily. Whatever it was by the end of the wedding we had all agreed that we should hang out at a later date. I'm so happy we met and so honored to have captured their beautiful wedding day.

Abby and Miran // Wedding // Louisville, KY

When I met Abby, we were both dance majors at YPAS - the performing arts magnet of duPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY. She came into the program the year after I did and I quickly noticed she was different from a lot of the other girls. She was mature beyond her age and a little weird and sarcastic and quick witted, not to mention a strong and beautiful dancer. All the things I look for in a friend. Even though we didn't stay close over the years after YPAS, I felt a kinship with her from the beginning so to get the call to photograph her wedding was SO exciting. I got to meet Miran for the first time over a Skype session and the three of us could have talked for hours. As you will see below, especially in their first dance photos, they are a perfect match for one another and I couldn't be happier for them.

Jon and Jessi // Wedding // Canary Hotel // Santa Barbara, CA

Jon and Jessi's wedding may not have been exactly what they planned or envisioned... i.e. a small destination wedding in Mexico... BUT it had SO much charm and attention to detail for coming together in a relatively short amount of time! When a hurricane damaged the resort where they originally planned to get married, they had to come up with a plan B and Santa Barbara seemed like a good fit, given that they met at UCSB. They chose the Canary Hotel as their venue and hired Shauna at Alegria by Design to pull together the details as quickly as she could. She knocked it out of the park as did all of the vendors who helped Jon and Jessi forget there ever was plan A.

Ashley and Avery // Wedding // Santa Barbara, CA

I'm so lucky to have worked with Ashley and Avery on their engagement shoot. I couldn't believe my good fortune when they asked me to shoot their wedding too! As you will see below, they are creative and fun and stunning and madly in love. It was an absolute dream to work with them. The list of vendors who made this beautiful day possible are listed below!

Winter Wedding Inspiration: English Pheasant Hunt // Styled by Selena Marie Weddings & Events // Featured on Grey Likes Weddings

It's no secret that my strengths lie in the visual spectrum of life. Luckily my sister Nora's strengths are numerous and include the written word. She helped style our models and helped us summarize the inspiration and some of the special details behind this winter wedding styled shoot. I couldn't have said it better myself. So I won't.

An antique brass pheasant figurine sparked our initial interest in a cozy winter wedding that combined rich, saturated colors with touches of English Country rustic glamour. From there, we decided to use a mixture of elements that put a modern twist on traditional British hunting culture: a vintage plaid blanket for the ceremony site, gorgeous flowers (by the very talented La Fleur du Jour) in jewel tones, pheasant feathers and pewter serving pieces as accents, and of course, lots of tweed.

A beautiful French lace BHLDN dress helped set the tone of the shoot: romantic, classic, but not  too stuffy. We envisioned a couple that loved history, books, and a little bit of whiskey on a cold day,   and then worked with a wonderful team of vendors to create a modern day hunting lodge feast in bright shades of amber, turquoise and plum, all inspired by the multicolored plumage of game birds.

We were especially enamored of the giant scroll that Carolyn Jane Designs created for us as a ceremony backdrop. Quoting Pride and Prejudice in beautiful calligraphy, the piece summed up perfectly our excitement upon seeing each new detail of this collaborative process come to life: “You have bewitched me, body and soul.”
